Marijuana Use Didn’t Create A “Sweet Tooth”

Cannabis (marijuana) imparts it’s effects on the human body (and all mammals) via the endocannabinoid system. This system plays a role in food reward in your body and possibly the intensity of sweet taste, therefore influencing what you like and don’t like concerning food flavors.

This study set out to determine if ingesting THC, CBD, or placebo had any effect on tasted sweetness and subsequent food choices. Ten healthy males were followed in this randomized placebo-controlled, double-blind crossover study for 3 test sessions, each 2 weeks apart.

Their results indicate that consuming cannabis did not effect taste or food choices. They did find that THC consumption led to individuals feeling less full and having greater desire to eat than with the CBD consumption.
