Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) sufferers must deal with significant disease activity symptoms and therefore suffer a diminished quality of life.
In this study, patients with long term IBD were prescribed inhaled cannabis (marijuana) to determine the effects it would have on their disease symptoms. Two quality of life questionnaires and disease activity indexes were performed, and the patient’s body weight was measured before, and again after 3 months of marijuana treatment.
The conclusion was that 3 months of marijuana treatment improved the quality of life measurements, reduced the disease activity, and allowed both weight gain and increase in body mass index in these chronic sufferers of inflammatory bowel disease.
