Neurogenesis is the growth and development of nerve tissue and is influenced by external factors such as enriched environments. Some researchers postulate that such neurogenesis in the hippocampus region of the brain contributes to improved learning and memory.
This study was designed to observe the effect of THC on neurogenesis and the associated cognitive performance (brain function) in the rat. Administration of THC was shown to enhance neurogenesis in the brain as well as improvement in learning and memory functions.
