For many, the first question may be: “Is marijuana really medicinal?” Once the propaganda has been pushed aside and facts are visible, it’s easy to find the answer is undoubtedly YES.
First of all, consider that the United States government owns a patent on the marijuana plant due to it’s fantastic health properties. It’s # 6,630,507. Didn’t know that? Your’e not alone because many don’t. But you can check the fact here.
What this patent states is that the cannabinoids (some of the primary chemicals in marijuana) have antioxidant properties. For the average person this means that the marijuana plant can help with age related diseases, inflammatory diseases, and autoimmune diseases.
That’s good but it gets even better. The patent granted to the US government particularly states that these compounds are powerful neuroprotectants. In everyday words that means they protect brain health and your nerve system! That means these molecules decrease neurological damage done after a stroke or trauma, and can be beneficial in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia. This is a big deal since your brain and nerve system control every other aspect of your body.
How’s that for proof that marijuana is medicinal? Once you learn that the government has given itself a patent on this powerful medicine and prevented everyday citizens from having natures medicine, you would be justified in demanding why. Just think of the billions of $$$$ that have gone to the pharmaceutical industry for man-made pills and you just might find your answer.
Speaking of natures medicine, the biblical among you might do well to remember Genesis 1:29 which states: “God said, See, I give you every seed-bearing plant that is upon all the earth, and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit; they shall be yours for food.” Sounds like we were meant to use natures plants for our benefit. Additionally, Hippocrates, called the Father of Modern Medicine, is attributed as saying: “Let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food.” Seems pretty clear.
So far we’ve got a patent, a bible verse, and a Greek quote – and I admit that’s not very much. But a quick search on PubMed brings up over 6,000 articles that have been published on medical marijuana. Many of them deal with social issues as viewed through the perspective of continuing the practice of prohibition, and therefore may not be entirely favorable. This is partly because being able to do research on marijuana health benefits have been extremely difficult in the US for several decades. However, as the people have begun to demand access to natural medicines, there are many more studies being performed which are designed to look for the true benefits available from this natural plant.
There is a 2019 article from the British Medical Journal indicating that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends changing 60 years of prohibition and proposes rescheduling cannabis within international law to take account the growing evidence for medical applications of the drug. The link is here.
This article from the Journal of Harm Reduction indicates that “access to medical and recreational cannabis can result in a reduction in the use of and subsequent harms associated with opioids, alcohol, tobacco, and other substances.” The link is here.
Given that chronic pain is the most common reason to obtain a medical marijuana license, it’s important to consider how well it may perform compared to synthetic medicines. Here is an article that supports many previous clinical studies that suggests marijuana is an effective pain relief substitute for opoid users. It states: “Participants reported improved pain, health, and fewer side effects as rationale for substituting.” The link is here.
Why consider medical marijuana if you can get a prescription pill? Because in 2017 more that 40,000 Americans died from opioid overdose, that’s over 130 people every day. To this day, history indicates that no one has ever died from using nature’s medicinal plant – marijuana.
So is marijuana medicinal? According to the facts, yes. MMJ In The USA is the resource to help you find the best medicine for you.
