Cannabidiol, often referred to as simply CBD, has been shown to decrease the incidence of diabetes in certain mouse models. CBD of course is a component of cannabis (marijuana). This study evaluated the effects of CBD and the onset of autoimmune diabetes.
The authors found that only 32% of the CBD treated mice, with either latent or initial symptoms of diabetes, developed it – compared with 100% for those not treated with CBD. They feel that their findings strengthen their previous assumption that CBD could be used as a therapeutic agent for type I diabetes. CBD is known to be safe in humans.
