In the gastroenterology field, cannabis (marijuana) is well known for it’s beneficial effect on vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and poor appetite. It is also shown that marijuana reduces intestinal inflammation.
A prospective survey study on 292 Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) patients revealed that 16.4 % of IBD patients in the US have used Cannabis to treat symptoms. The majority of the patients with both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis reported that Cannabis was “very helpful”.
This article refers to another study in which 13 subjects were given 50 g dry cannabis per month to use as needed and reported improved quality of life and reductions of disease activity.
