It is quite natural to have concerns about inhaling smoke into ones lungs, especially when we consider the damaging effects of cigarette smoking. However, smoking cannabis (marijuana) has continued to demonstrate a lack of similar damage when studied.
This study evaluated the oxidant material created by macrophages in the air sacs of the lungs, comparing marijuana smokers with cigarette smokers and those who abstained. This material is implicated in the onset of emphysema in cigarette smokers.
The findings were similar between non-smokers and marijuana smokers, in this case indicating marijuana smoking left the lungs as healthy as non-smokers.
