614 Italian patients were evaluated in this study on cannabis (marijuana) for pain relief. Cannabis was added to the pain regimen of these mostly female individuals who averaged 61 years of age.
At the initial follow up which averaged 98 days after adding cannabis to their treatment regimen, 76% of the patients were continuing marijuana use, mostly because of the additional relief provided.
The addition of marijuana to the pain treatment regimen was considered to be safe and effective.
