Medical cannabis (marijuana) users frequently use it to reduce pain and prescription use. What are some motivators for those who consume under the legally renewed adult use or “recreational” option?
Between August and October of 2016, 1000 non-medical cannabis users who voluntarily participated in a survey at two Colorado dispensaries provided some insights.
65% reported taking cannabis for pain, and 80% of them reported it was extremely helpful. 74% reported taking cannabis to promote sleep, and 84% of them reported it was extremely helpful.
Most of them (up to 88%) reported taking less over-the-counter pain medications, less opioids, and/or less prescription sleep aids, with some being able to eliminate the prescription completely. This report indicates that many adults who consume under the “recreational” category do so for health purposes and achieve excellent results.
