Not all medical marijuana (cannabis) programs do this, but Minnesota’s program is unique because it collects patient-reported scores on symptoms. Read further to find out about improvement in symptom severity for patients with cancer during their first 4 months in this program.
Patients in the program reported their symptoms (anxiety, lack of appetite, depression, disturbed sleep, fatigue, nausea, pain and vomiting) at their worst over the last 24 hours prior to each medical marijuana product purchase. Baseline scores were obtained for all 8 symptoms.
A significant reduction was found for all symptoms within the first 4 months of participation. The authors of this study state that medical cannabis (marijuana) was well tolerated and some patients attained clinically meaningful and lasting levels of improvement.
