As more of the United States implements medical marijuana laws, there is considerable interest on the effect, if any, this has on marijuana use among youth.
This article states that a previous publication by Stolzenberg et al. (2015) entitled “The effect of medical cannabis laws on juvenile cannabis use”, erroneously claimed that medical marijuana laws led to an increase in youth use. They go on to replicate the data and demonstrate how Stolzenberg et al. were actually comparing between states with and without medical marijuana laws instead of pre and post changes within states implementing medical marijuana laws.
If you have been presented with the Stolzenberg paper as “proof” that medical marijuana laws increased youth consumption, you may have been grossly mislead, as those results are in contradiction to others interpreting the same data.
