Oral cannabis (marijuana) extracts are commonly used for assistance in controlling epilepsy seizures and symptoms. Some parents report success and much needed relief for their loved ones’ symptoms, but not all types of epilepsy respond the same.
In this retrospective chart review, a clearer understanding of which type of epilepsy may respond to marijuana emerged. In this analysis, epilepsy categorized as Doose had a 0% response rate, that classified as Dravet had a 23% response rate, and that classified as Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) had nearly an 89% response rate.
Perhaps in the future science will determine how cannabis may be used to help the remainder of those who do not currently respond to treatment.
