Marijuana Could Inhibit Some Stomach Ulcers

It is well documented that marijuana (cannabis) is regularly and effectively used for pain mitigation. But its other benefits are often surprising.

In this study it was found that cannabis sativa (marijuana) extracts rich in THC can protect the mucosal lining of the stomach. One method of protection is that marijuana seems to inhibit stomach acid production.

Other methods of protection for the stomach seem to be through anti-inflammatory and antioxidant protection. It is found that marijuana protects the stomach lining from non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, (NSAIDS like aspirin & Ibuprofen) alcohol, and stress induced damage.

In the future medical marijuana or its derivatives could find use in the treatment of peptic ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux.
