The cannabis (marijuana) plant is largely recognized as having natural anti-inflammatory qualities. In this study it was observed that both THC and CBD reduced the phenotype which is increased in inflammatory autoimmune pathologies such as multiple sclerosis.
Not only did these cannabis components decrease the inflammatory IL-17 and IL-6 cytokines, they boosted the expression of one of our own natural anti-inflammatory cytokines, IL-10. The authors specifically noted that the suppression of this inflammatory molecule did not seem to occur through the CB1, CB2, or other expected receptors.
