Yes, you read that correctly and you can stop blinking and rubbing your eyes. It seems you can find the most amazing things in the scientific literature. This study was based on an anonymous questionnaire filled out prospectively by females over 18 years of age in a single, academic, obstetrics and gynecology practice.
To limit bias, the authors embedded the questions about marijuana deep into the questionnaire. Measurement about marijuana use before sex was a simple yes or no. Out of 373 females who completed the questions, 34% (176) used marijuana before sex. The majority were white, heterosexual, and the mean ages of the groups were not statistically significant.
Of those who used marijuana before sex, 68% stated the overall experience was more pleasurable, 60% noted an increase in sex drive, and 52% reported an increase in satisfying orgasms. The researchers ultimately stated that marijuana use before sex led to 2.13 higher odds of reporting satisfactory orgasm in these women.
The weakness of this study is that it relied on the women’s memory and the perceptions of the sexual experience. However it is real life and all questionnaires rely on recall. There are several possible ways in which cannabis use may affect sexual function and perception and you can read more here.
