Marijuana May Treat Psoriasis

Cannabinoids are the broad category for many of the components found in the cannabis sativa (marijuana) plant. They are anti-inflammatory in nature and have inhibitory effects on a number of tumor cell lines. Here. And here. For example.

Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease, characterized in part by hyper-proliferation of some epidermal cells. This study set out to determine the effects of THC and other cannabinoids on the proliferation of those types of cells.

The results showed that the cannabinoids tested all inhibited the proliferation of keratinocytes in a concentration dependent manner. They state there is a potential role for cannabinoids in the treatment of psoriasis.
