Marijuana Use Safe For PTSD

Current medications generally only provide partial relief for sufferers of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and those who don’t fully respond have a high rate of substance abuse. Marijuana (cannabis) is often used as an additional “compassion” therapy for those not fully responding to typical medicines.

In this small pilot study, 10 medication stable patients with chronic PTSD were given 5mg of THC twice daily as an additional therapy. It was given in an orally absorbable form.

The addition of THC created significant improvement in overall symptom severity, improving sleep quality, nightmares and the typical hyper-arousal symptoms. Orally absorbable THC was found to be safe for patients with PTSD.
