Marijuana Users Can Still Ride A Bicycle

Different countries, states and cities have variability in their preferred method of transportation, and officials wonder what effect marijuana (cannabis) will have on those various means of human travel. This study from Germany evaluated for the potential effect of marijuana use on bicycle riding ability.

In order to make the assessment, repetitive practical cycling tests and medical examinations were carried out before and after inhaled consumption of cannabis. 14 participants who regularly use marijuana were chosen to participate.

A maximum of 3 joints with weight adapted THC content of 300 micro grams THC per Kg body weight could be consumed. The researchers found that only a few “driving” faults could be observed even under very high THC concentrations.

They could not determine a level of THC concentration which would lead to an inability to ride a bicycle, and only slight distinctive features could be seen which would arouse suspicion for “driving under the influence”. Ride on Germans, ride on.
