The medical literature states that almost 50% of the American population experiences sleeping problems. At the same time there is a nearly 50% rate of dissatisfaction regarding the effectiveness and potential side effects of pharmaceutical medications for the condition. Past clinical trials that have used synthetic imitations of the marijuana plant have reported negative side effects.
But what about the natural flower? In the first study to measure the self reported benefits of commonly consumed dried cannabis flower (marijuana), significant improvements in perceived insomnia were noted.
409 people with a specified condition of insomnia completed 1056 medical cannabis administration sessions using the Releaf AppTM educational software during which they recorded real-time ratings of self-perceived insomnia severity levels prior to and following consumption.
These users showed an average symptom severity reduction of −4.5 points on a 0–10 point visual analogue scale!
This means that medical marijuana in it’s natural flower form may help you with insomnia as well.
Two items of particular interest to the medical marijuana patient. First, CBD was associated with greater symptom relief than THC. (Attempting to use a high THC / low CBD strain may not be very effective.) Secondly, C. sativa strains (they tend to increase energy) were associated with more negative side effects (regarding sleep) than C. indica or hybrid plant sub-types. Sub-types will be elaborated on more in another article.
