Medical Marijuana: Known Anti-Cancer Effects of CBD

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the more well known components of the marijuana plant. This abstract points out that CBD derived from cannabis sativa has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, and displays anti-proliferative activities.

Cancer cells use a communication system which can be targeted to interfere with proliferation. The study from frontiers in Pharmacology, show the effectiveness of CBD as an inhibitor of this communication system in 3 specific cancer cell lines: prostate cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and breast adenocarcinoma.

The authors state that CBD is a novel and safe modulator and can be used to sensitize cancer cells to chemotherapy. It appears that marijuana (cannabis) is one of natures wonder plants.
