It is well known that cannabis (marijuana) can stimulate appetite and promote weight gain in cancer patients. This study evaluates any relationship between adolescent marijuana use and weight change to midlife, while accounting for the use of other substances.
This study applies 20-22 years of follow-up data to 712 Danish participants who were between the ages of 15-19 at the beginning of the study. The baseline surveys were conducted in 1983 and 1985, and the follow up was conducted in 2015.
While 19% reported having used cannabis, there was no association between adolescent cannabis use and weight change into midlife.
This does not imply the recommendation of adolescent marijuana use.
