Marijuana Has Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Inflammation in one form or another is involved in nearly every disease process in some manner. With that in mind, the more we consume “anti-inflammatory” compounds, the healthier we may be able to stay.

Cannabis (marijuana) has natural anti-inflammatory properties from cannabinoids as well as terpenes. Terpenes are found in all kinds of plants and are responsible for their smell. There are many different terpenes in marijuana, and they vary from strain to strain.

This study set out to determine if the terpenes found in marijuana were as strong in their anti-inflammation properties as CBD.

While it was found that terpenes could curb both inflammation and pain, they were not as strong as CBD. However, it was stated that they may have a more important role in acute inflammation while CBD might be more oriented at effectiveness in chronic inflammation.

If you are not already familiar with the entourage effect, it is essentially the beneficial synergy that occurs from using all of a plants chemistry together, just as it came in the plant. So when you are consuming whole plant medicine, you’re already getting your CBD, Terpenes, and all the other ingredients put in your medicine by mother nature.
