Marijuana Receptors For Prostate Cancer Treatment

The endocannabinoid system is the powerful and important regulating and balancing system in the body that responds to the components in cannabis (marijuana). Anything that stimulates the cannabinoid (CB1 & CB2) receptors of this system will influence it’s function.

Like many cancers, prostate cancer cells have a greater number of cannabinoid receptors, and stimulating them can have an influence on the cancer expression. In this laboratory study, it was shown that a synthetic chemical which activates these receptors similar to natural cannabinoids, was able to inhibit cancer cell growth, induce cancer cell death, and create other chemical changes which show promise for the treatment of prostate cancer.
